Save Money On Your Taxes

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

On the way, I have learnt a few tricks about saving taxes. The most important is the personal money I spend on my business. Due to many reasons, I often meet certain business expenses by paying through my credit card. In the end when I prepare my tax papers, these cards are often taken as revenue. I don’t have to tell you, that we have to pay taxes on what we earn. Therefore I end up paying for something, which I have not really earned. Step one is to calculate all the money you have put into the business and carefully avoid making it a part of gross revenue.

Why Are We So Vague About Personal Finance?

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

Most educational systems do an abysmal job, if any job at all, in teaching young people about personal finance. Beyond that, many people growing up are not afforded good examples of sound money management at home, given the fact that many parents are dysfunctional around money.

People very often feel uncomfortable in carrying on discussions about money, sometimes to the point of embarrassment. This can be chalked up to the generalized feeling of vagueness that seems to pervade much of the population when it comes to personal finances.

Just by way of example, not much in the way of sane thinking seems to exist when it comes to using credit cards. In 1992, in the United State alone, the credit card debt nationally was $273 billion. As of 2007, has swollen to more than $800 billion and shows no signs of slowing down. Statistics establish that the average American household has over $9,000 in credit card debt. All too often people use credit cards without a clear idea how mounting balances will be paid back fully in a timely manner.

Keeping your income tax deductions in order

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

Because I have so many income tax deductions I can no longer do my taxes on my own. I believe this is for the best, because if I try to do them on my own I know I would end up being faced with an audit. I am not the best at keeping receipts, though I do keep good records. However, I know that the IRS would be more interested in what receipts I could produce rather than what kind of records I kept. They don’t care about how honest I think I am, they want to see proof.

Getting professional tax preparation help

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

For the longest time I was able to do my taxes on my own. This was when my husband and I both had simple jobs, and all we needed was the information on our W-2. This has changed, and I have had to go for professional tax preparation for the last few years. Though it costs me money to do so, my taxes are just too complicated for me to handle on my own. My husband doesn’t have the patience, and we both know that there are deductions that we would miss. It’s worth the fee to us, but it is not the same for everyone.

Income Tax Deductions

Monday, June 25th, 2007

Taxes can be a bit tricky at times. After completing school a couple years back, I wasn’t exactly prepared for the “real world” and income tax deductions. I knew I wanted to be a writer, but the title I wanted was not so simple to achieve. This turned me toward freelance work to pay the bills. Little did I know, self-employed individuals worked with a different tax system than company employed workers. What I mean by this is we have to grapple with quarterly taxes, instead of the yearly routine. Now, did I just throw off any self-employed workers out there? Hey, it’s better to know this ahead of time. This is when I decided to consult an accountant. He explained the quarterly tax spiel to me, in addition to income tax deductions. I was pleased to know that as a writer I could write off trips and vacations that I used for “inspiration for writing.” Makes sense right? Well, whether it does or not is irrelevant. Either way it’s valid income tax deductions. What about your career or current job position? Are you aware of all the income tax deductions available to you? If the answer is no, you’d better get with the program and get that cash.

1031 Exchange and Rental Properties

Saturday, May 5th, 2007

This is an article on 1031 Exchange.

Many Real Estate investors have used the 1031 Exchange to trade out of a “hard to rent” rental property which had been making their job as a landlord very, very expensive. Rental property for the most part only makes money when it is rented.  Finding qualified and responsible tenants is another challenge that every landlord faces.

Each landlord or property manager has a different approach to this. If you are really fortunate the previous owner will sell the property at a time when it’s already being leased. This is helpful as it allows a new investor the chance to speak to the owner about the tenant’s history and it also means you’ll have a rental income coming in from the start.  New investor will find many situations where a 1031 exchange will be to their advantage.

Electronic Return Receipt (ERR) for USPS Certified Mail

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

The U.S. Postal Service began providing electronic proof of Certified Mail letter delivery in 2001. When each Certified Mail letter is delivered the letter carrier records delivery information for each letter electronically including the Signature of the person that accepts the letter.

Electronic Return Receipt (ERR) provides the mailer proof of delivery for each USPS Certified Mail letter mailed in the United States. What happens to the green card Return Receipt? The old fashioned USPS green Return Receipt card has been an icon of Certified Mail for more than 230 years. This courtesy reply card has been used to provide proof the letter was delivered.  This little green postcard has been difficult for both the mailer and the U.S. Postal Service to manage.  Mailers have reported the cards missing, stuck inside other pieces of mail and very timely to organize file and manage.

Certified Mail Envelopes include Electronic Return Receipt and ‘in-route’ letter tracking. The information is archived and stored in your account for 7 years so you can access the information and print the Electronic Return Receipt or letter tracking information 24/7 from any computer and print the reports to your local printer.

Income Tax Preparation

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

Everything with the income tax preparation and filing is self-explanatory. This way when you file electronically, no mistakes can be made. As long as you have your employment and salary information at-hand, you’re golden. I laugh at my mother every tax season, because she always turns to my brother for income tax preparation assistance. She asks him to figure out her taxes and file them for her. Hmm, I guess I can’t blame her. She’s about as good at math as I am, and that’s not saying much. Luckily for her, my brother does it without question. He resorts to his handy income tax preparation and filing software and he’s done in no time flat.
