IRS Federal Tax Brackets
I bet you never thought inflation would be a good thing. Well when it comes to the federal tax bracket it is. All things must keep up with inflation and it’s no different pertaining to tax brackets.
As a matter of fact, according to the law, tax provisions must be revised each year. Because of that, there are more than three dozen tax benefits, affecting nearly every taxpayer.
Personal and Dependency Exemption
The value of this was changed from $3,500 to $3,650. That’s a $150 increase for us. Now that’s some good news for most of us.

IRS Income Tax Brackets
Knowing what tax bracket you’re in is one of the best ways to prepare for tax season, especially when your unsure which bracket you fall into.
With the election of our new president, there have been some significant changes to the income requirements of each bracket, so it’s certainly worth looking into as your bracket may have changed compared to last year.
One of the important things to understand about tax brackets is that you are only taxed a certain percentage for the money you make in each bracket
This may seem unclear at first, but here’s an example: Fred makes $80,000 a year and is due for a small raise that will bring him up to $83,000 a year. The 25% bracket stops at $82,250, so Fred’s entire income will now be taxed at 28%, right? Actually, that’s not how it works!

Claiming The Current Mileage Tax Rate
When claiming mileage as a deduction you will have the choice of deducting either the mileage, or your actual vehicle expenses. There are different requirements for each that you’ll have to keep in mind when filing.
For example, the requirements for the mileage deduction are as follows:
- It must be a requirement of your job to use your personal vehicle for work.
- You must keep accurate records that include the total mileage for each use, the time, date, place, and the address.
Also, depending on the type of business there are different rates that apply for that specific use. For example:

Second Stimulus Check Payment Package
Taxpayers who have not already received their stimulus payment, or income tax rebate for 2008, now have a second to do so. Also, if you filed a 2008 return but have not received your stimulus check, the IRS has resources to help you track it down and be sure you get paid. If you wish, you may start by calling the IRS hotline at 866-234-2942.
And if you did not file a return in 2008, you may still qualify for the stimulus check upon filing your 2008 return after January 31, 2009.
Under the present law, no taxpayer is entitled to receive a second stimulus payment, unless the law is modified because of the dire economic circumstances we now face.

Most taxpayers will be looking at all the possible savings and new tax breaks they are eligible for in the coming tax season. There are some new ones as well as some that have been around for awhile that are often overlooked.

Tax Rebate Checks, Irs Tax Rebate
More rebates may be coming in 2009, but if you are eligible for a 2008 rebate, it’s still not too late to claim last year’s rebate as well! Merely by filing your tax return, as a US citizen, you are eligible for the rebate, unless you were claimed as an exemption by another taxpayer.
The IRS is responsible for the issuance of the tax rebate checks and you can go their website to check the status of your rebate if it has not been received.
There are many things that can cause a delay or mishandling of a rebate check. You should be sure to follow up on your own to make sure you receive the rebate check you’re entitled to.

Homestead exemption is designed to protect the value of the homes of residents from property taxes, creditors and circumstances arising from the death of the spouse of the homeowner. There are three primary features that the exemption laws protect:
1. They prevent the forced sale of a home to meet the demands of creditors.
2. They provide the surviving spouse with shelter.
3. They provide an exemption from property taxes which can be applied to a home.
“Homestead” is defined as the one primary residence of a person, and no other exemption can be claimed on any other property anywhere, even outside the boundaries where the exemption is claimed.
A homestead exemption is most often only on a fixed dollar amount, such as the first $50,000 of the assessed value.
The following are a few of the available tax exemptions to claim on your tax return if your residence qualifies:

The Federal Withholding Table is constantly being adjusted based on current tax rates. Employers use the IRS Table as a guide to determine how much tax should be withdrawn from your paycheck.
As taxes increase, so do the amounts on the Withholding Tables. You calculate the amount of Withholding by completing the W-4 worksheet. If you need to increase or decrease your withholding amount you will use this Form. Although, most employers will complete the Form for you.
You can also increase your Withholding amount by having an additional amount withheld from each check. This is reported on Line 6 of the W-4 Form. To increase your Withholdings, you will decrease the number of allowances on Line 5 of the W-4 worksheet.

CA State Tax
CA State Tax differs from the federal tax laws in many ways, so it’s prudent to research California state tax if you’re new to the state or on your way.
California has always had its own distinct way of doing things. In fact, California has long been the trend setter for most of the style we see in American culture, especially that of the last ten years. It comes from the west, and New York with a dash of Miami, but most of our current social ideals were forged in none in other than sunny California. So what about California state taxes? Well, they’re a little different.

Social Security Tax Refund
You may be wondering if you are eligible to receive a Social Security Tax Refund. It’s not always easy looking after yourself. Luckily for Americans, there was President Roosevelt and his Social Security Act, his New Deal.
So why not have everyone contribute their nickels and dimes through payroll taxes so that Americans can act as good Samaritans to other Americans? But what if there’s a discrepancy between what is taken out and what you should have paid in? Don’t worry, there’s always a Social Security tax refund available.
Social Security tax (FICA) is automatically collected from your paychecks. Sometimes, however, too much is taken out, and you will be in a situation where money is owed back to you. This usually happens in a situation when you have multiple employers.

The gift tax limit 2011 amount is $13,000. So what does that mean for you and me? The gift tax limit is one of the most complicated tax laws of the Internal Revenue Code. You can give a gift of $13,000 to as many people as you want without paying gift tax. If you give over $13,000 the gift tax kicks in and you will have to fill out tax form 709 to report and pay your tax to the IRS.
What if I give a gift to my spouse? There are some instances when you do not have to pay gift tax. You can give as much money as you would like to your spouse without ever being taxed. You can also give as much as you would like to charities, tuition, medical payments you make for someone, or political organizations and there are even more than mentioned here.
There is something called gift splitting. When you give half of the gift and your spouse gives the other half this is called gift splitting. You wouldn’t want to jointly give a gift of $20,000 or else the gift tax limit would kick in and you would have to pay gift tax. You would be wise to take advantage of gift splitting because each of you would give $10,000 and each of you would be under the $13,000 gift tax limit.
Visit our Gift Tax Limit 2011 page to discover more about the gift tax limit rules.

In certain cases, though, you can get a child tax credit refund when the credit exceeds your tax liability. This means that you would get a refund of the difference between your tax credit and what you owe in taxes. This refundable child tax credit is called the Additional Child Tax Credit Amount, which you calculate on Form 8812.
For families with three qualifying children or fewer, the child tax credit amount is refundable to the extent of 15 percent of taxable earned income in excess of $3,000 for 2010. Because the child tax credit amount, is not a deduction, you get to take those dollars right off your tax bill. That makes this much better than a deduction would be, which would just reduce the income you use to determine taxes.

The child tax credit amount calculator will guarantee the most money back to you will be the route automatically taken, as their 100% biggest refund guarantee is no idle boast.
There were some changes in 2009 that saw the threshold of 12,500 move to 3,000 which has made it much easier to qualify for the refundable additional child tax credit amount.
It should be noted that the otherwise child tax credit amount is phased out for those taxpayers with a modified adjusted gross income above certain thresholds. If this is indeed the case, then the amount of the child tax credit will be reduced (not below zero) by $50 per $1,000 your modified adjusted gross income surpasses the threshold amount.
