Predatory Lending is Illegal

Monday, November 19th, 2007

If you own a home it is likely to be your greatest single asset. Unfortunately, if you agree to a loan that is based on the equity which you have in your house, you are putting your most valuable asset at risk. You should be careful because certain abusive or exploitive lenders (Commonly called Predatory Lenders) target home owners (particularly the elderly, minorities, low income persons and those with poor credit ratings). Although there are many reputable lenders, the past few years have seen an increase in the Mortgage credit market.   Luckily, there is some protection under both federal and state law.  First, Congress passed the “Truth in Lending Act” (TILA) in 1968.  TILA can be found at 15 U.S.C. 1600 et. seq.  It is implemented by the Federal Reserve Board’s Regulation Z at 12 CFR, Part 226 and by the Federal … See the FULL STORY

Is Michael Cherney Serious?

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

Michael Cherney ( aka Mikhail Chernoy ) is a Russian multi billionaire who now lives in Israel, having fled Russia in 1993 after making some powerful enemies.

You may have heard about Michael Cherney recently as he’s trying to sue his former business associate Oleg Deripaska. Oleg’s also a Russian multi billionaire - but he still lives in Russia, and he’s even richer than Michael!

I don’t think much of Michael’s chances of winning his court case as he’s trying to get it heard in London - despite the fact that neither of them live in the UK, and their companies are not located in the UK either.

The court case is about the ownership of some RusAl shares and it’s disrupting the IPO of Rusal.

This squabble is purely a Russian matter - and is something that should be settled in Russia - but Michael daren’t go back there!

Anyway it’s up to Michael to prove to the London court that they should hear the case - the judge who’s been assigned the case doesn’t seem convinced that it should be heard.

The next step is for the judge to say how much Michael will have to ante up should the case be accepted. We’ll know then if Michael is serious or not - he’ll have to produce the cash for the case to go ahead - or he’ll back down, having achieved his objective of disrupting the IPO of RusAl.

It’s an interesting situation - and I’ve created a page on Myspace covering the Michael Cherney lawsuit see what you think about Michael’s chances - and decide whether it’s just a ploy dreamed up by Michael’s public relations company - in order to disrupt the RusAl IPO and cause trouble for Oleg.

Could Michael Cherney Be So Cynical?

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

Could Michael Cherney be so cynical that he’d use his charity - The Michael Cherney Foundation to hamper Oleg Deripaska’s RusAl IPO?

Michael’s made it widely known though his network of self promotional websites that The Michael Cherney Foundation will receive 600 million dollars - should he win his court case against Oleg Deripaska - despite the fact that the case has little chance of even going to court.

Michael’s got a serious problem - he’s got a legal case he wants to bring to trial - but the case belongs in Russia - but Michael daren’t go back there as he made powerful enemies when he lived in Russia.

So Michael’s trying to get the case heard in London - despite the fact that neither he or Oleg live in the UK, and their companies are not located in the UK either.

It’s an interesting dilemma - and there’s an article covering the Michael Cherney London lawsuit see what you think about Michael’s chances - and whether it’s just a cynical ploy dreamed up by Michael’s public relations company - in order to cause trouble for Oleg’s RusAl IPO.

Currency Traders Chase The Aussie Dollar

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

The Aussie dollar has rallied, anticipating a higher yield spread between itself and the Japanese yen and the US dollar. This is one of the major components of Aussie dollar strength- the yield differential. The others are the commodity bull market, which creates demand for Aussie dollars, and the government’s surplus, which compared to the fiscal policy of other Anglo Saxon countries, looks downright prudent.

And while home sales plummet in the States and foreclosures rise, at least one Aussie bank reported that it hasn’t suffered much at all from the subprime led credit crunch. “Australia & New Zealand Banking Group Ltd. (ASX: ANZ), the nation’s third largest, posted record second-half profit on new branches and increased deposits, insulating the bank from higher funding costs

Stocks Versus Bonds know few basic differences.

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

Stocks Versus Bonds.

Whereas stocks give investors part ownership of a company, bonds are loans made by investors to corporations or governments. Rather than benefiting from company profits the way that stock holders do, bond holders receive a fixed rate of return – a percentage of the bond’s original offering price. The return is called the ‘coupon rate’. Bonds have a maturity date at which time the principal amount is returned. Bonds can be issued for any period of time – some take up to 30 years to mature.

Using a money transfer service online is safe, easy and quick

Sunday, September 9th, 2007

Let’s further examine the downside of a money transfer service such as Paypal. Now, if you do a little research; not much at all; you’ll find that oodles of individuals hate Paypal with a passion. They’ve been accused of all sorts of shady activity. One thing they’re known for is putting accounts on hold. Basically this denies you access to anything. They can hold any sum of money in your account and give you no valid reason. This can go on for months. Chances are they’re doing it with large sums of cash in order to collect interest. There are websites built simply to bash the Paypal money transfer service. I strongly suggest you check them out before taking advantage of this particular service. There are alternatives such as western union and others, just make sure you use a company you can trust and have a toll-free number if you have to speak to a real person to get answers if you have any problems.

Is The Safety Of Your Money in Bank a Facade?

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

The reflex is to go to the bank’s balance sheets. Banks and balance sheets have been both invented in their modern form in the 15th century. A balance sheet, coupled with other financial statements is supposed to provide us with a true and full picture of the health of the bank, its past and its long-term prospects. The surprising thing is that despite common opinion it does. The less surprising element is that it is rather useless unless you know how to read it.

DC Council Panel Targets Rates for Payday Loans

Monday, August 27th, 2007

If you’re want to get a payday loan in DC, pay attention. Payday lending was criticized at a D.C. Council hearing as an abusive service targeting minority and poor customers, and defended as a useful financial tool for people needing some emergency cash.

The city’s attorney general has proposed limiting the annual rate charged at payday loan services to 24 percent. In effect, the proposal would limit to less than $1 the maximum fee firms could charge for a $100 loan repaid within two weeks. Now, they charge customers $15 or $16 to borrow $100 for two weeks.

So You Want to Know What Is A Business Line of Credit?

Monday, August 27th, 2007

A business line of credit is a common form of financing offered by banks to small businesses.  The money is basically available at any time on a certain amount agreed upon by you and the lender.  In most cases there is no requirement for collateral, and when there is no requirement for collateral it is called an unsecured business line of credit.   A business line of credit revolves like a credit card, and is….

What Banks Do to Banks Create Money Out of Thin Air

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

Currently when banks receive a sum of money, they are able to lend out ten times that amount. That’s right for every $1 that comes into the bank, they can lend out $10.This is called the money multiplier and it is based on the required reserve ratio. The required reserve ratio is the percentage of…
