Job Hunting Tips for college grads in finding that first step on your career ladder.
For the majority of people these days, the career path begins once you graduate from college. But graduation day can also mean the day when the real world finally starts. College is a time for learning and choosing the field you want to pursue.
But learning about integral calculus, Homer, and supply and demand curves doesn’t necessarily mean that you are also prepared for an actual career. To get your career off to the right, take the following simple steps prior to applying, during your interviewing, and after you start your new job.
First, it is always a good idea to go to informational sessions within your field of interest and also ones being held by firms that you have applied for. These venues are not only excellent for starting to get your name circulating amongst hiring managers and allowing you to present your credentials in a more informal setting, but they also allow you to gauge the starting opportunities you will have in your field.
Secondly, at interviews, one recommendation for candidates is to be approaching them not from the viewpoint of the employer but that of the employee. Instead of being a beggar, be a chooser: you have to make sure that the environment and the employer fits you first and foremost. And finally, when once you are off and running in your new job, be proactive and take on responsibilities. Take steps to make sure that you are at the front of your manager’s mind. In the long run, your efforts will reap dividends not only in terms of promotions and raises, but also those lucrative references.

Advantages of Student Loans
In addition to simply providing the money that students need to complete their education, student loans have some specific advantages that make them useful in paying for tuition and other educational expenses. In most cases, loans don’t have to be repaid until the student graduates… meaning that as the student takes out more loans as they work toward graduation, they won’t have to be repaying the previous loans as well.
Once the student is no longer enrolled, then all of their loans become due and they can begin making payments on them at that point. This allows for students to borrow the money that they need, repaying all of it at a later date instead of having to start repayment right away.
Once repayment begins, many student loans also have lower interest rates or special rates that are designed specifically for students.

Student loan consolidating works by locking in a low fixed interest rate as opposed to the variable interest rate customary of most government loans. There are no penalties for early repayment of low interest rate loans, so borrowers can leverage the lower monthly payments to improve their credit score and pay off high interest debts early on.
Also the student consolidation loan balance can be spread out over a longer period of time, resulting in a lower monthly payment. The effects of student loan consolidating on your credit score should not be overlooked.  Such a loan is one of the simplest ways to make a huge improvement to your score.

When you are looking for a job, your resume and cover letter will make or break your chances at getting an interview. Your resume has to be well written, contain the right information, and has to be honest and truthful. The cover letter is a brief introduction that should make the person reading want to have a look at your resume. The combination of resume and cover letter often scares the most competent of people, but if you don’t know what you are doing, there is help out there. In order to write a good resume and cover letter, you have to know what your strengths are, and you have to be truthful about your education and experience. Many people embellish a bit on their resume, but if you go too far, you are asking to be fired from a job you have not secured yet.

Anyone who has ever applied for a job will tell you that the first step to a successful job hunt is a well written resume. But again, anyone who has ever sat down to try and create the perfect resume will tell you that this is not as easy as it sounds. Most people imagine that since they are the ones who know everything there is to know about themselves, they would be the logically right people to do the job. What they forget however is that writing a professional resume is a skill that most of us are not endowed with. This is where professional resume writers come into the picture. Simply put, a professional resume writer is a person who can help you create a compelling resume.

There is nothing I dislike more, than attending a job interview. It seems to me that all you do is show that you are good or bad at job interviews, and not whether you are good at the job you’re a candidate for. Some job interviewers approach the interview very scientifically, reading up on techniques, psychological profiling and so on. For the interviewee, you must know how to answer job interview questions. A job interview is the art of telling people what you think they want to hear. Having said that, there must be a degree of honesty here. We all exaggerate our experience and skills a bit from time to time, but remember that if you claim to have a four-year track record of flying passenger airplanes, you will need to back it up later on.

Did you find that job yet? No, I’m not talking about just any old 9-5 paycheck. I’m talking about an awesome position doing what you love. Now how does that strike you? Yeah, that’s what I thought. Hey, this is the very reason we strive for that higher education. It’s what follows the four year college career. Once those tests, group presentations and mid-terms are through, it’s time for the real world. And this means a real job. No more minimum wage and annoying customer service garbage. It’s time to move on up the corporate ladder.

As an educator and coordinator at learning centers, I have seen my share of cover letters; and as a freelance writer who submits to publishers, enters writing competitions, and bids on writing projects every month, I have written more than my share of cover letters. While I would not imply any special expertise, I would suggest a few steps to take or things to keep in mind as you write your own covers. Know that you have something like three seconds to make an impression on a busy reader. Be he a board member considering which students to admit or be she a CEO determining the best candidate for the position that just opened up, the reader is likely slogging through hundreds of cover letters and will need, therefore, to use a process of elimination.

Finding a job can be rather irksome and difficult at times. I certainly won’t argue that it isn’t. I can still recall when I moved to Salem, Oregon back in 2001. I moved there with my wife and daughter since my wife found a better job. I was trying to finish college since I was already half way done. However, I definitely needed a job as well. I had total intentions of acquiring a bartending position at one of the local hot-spots. This is what I had just been doing back home, prior to the move. Man was I ever in for a surprise. I ventured out to search all the bars and clubs for openings.

Are you done with school yet? It always feels great to finally finish up with that bachelor’s degree. Although you may arrive at college with dreams and aspirations of parties, staying out late, and life without the parents, things sadly take a turn in another direction. I’m talking about all the freaking homework. I was so tired of writing 12 page papers and reading two books a week that I happily said bye-bye to college life. Please, just give me the darn diploma already! Anyway, once that bout with the professors and homework does finally come to a halt, you realize that you’re on your own.
