I did not understand what this career information would do for me, but I did learn a lot. Even more incredibly, it did help me in interviews. I knew more about where I was headed and what I wanted to do, and that did show through in the interviews.

It did take me a while longer to get the job I wanted, but there were no more comments about my enthusiasm. Most of the time it was simply a lack of experience that help me back. As it turned out, finding out career information in my field was one of the best things I could have done.

I work in a Kansas City advertising agency, and have for the past 3 years. I do not consider it selling out, like you might think. You see, when I got into Kansas City advertising, I was not compromising a dream, so much as grasping on to the most realistic and easily achieved part of it. I had always loved to do creative work, but had never understood how to do it while still making enough money to support the standard of living that I truly desired. My Kansas City advertising job allowed me to do all of that. Although I am not allowed to really express my own ideas about society and how it is being destroyed by the marketing of false desires by massive, evil corporations, I am allowed to use my aesthetic ideas in the service of clients, those same big evil corporations.
