Brochure Design Tips for Small Business Owners

Most small business owners have really tight budgets for the advertising and promotion of their business these days. Some business owners believe that they can’t even afford a high-quality marketing vehicle such as a full-color brochure. However, a professional brochure is a basic marketing tool that every business needs.

One big obstacle to getting a brochure together is that some business owners don’t know how the whole development process actually works, how to get the work done or who to contact to do the work from them.

There are a couple of ways a small business can get a good brochure developed. The most common way is to work through a local advertising agency or design firm. But big advertising agencies, design firms and many freelance designers may just be too expensive for the small business owner. So, where can the frugal business owner turn?

A terrific option is to find a graphic design student that will create the project for you. Talented design students will often take on your project for only a small amount of money, because they need the work experience and they want some completed projects in their work portfolio to show potential employers one day. You can usually find an eager, talented student through a local design school or via a local college graphic design department.

You may be thinking about just designing and producing the entire project yourself. However, most business owners don’t have the artistic or design skills necessary to get a good finished product. I recommend business owners should leave the design to somebody with the needed experienced. And if your brochure turns out to be poor, customers may see it as a negative view of your business as well.
