A Positive Agribusiness Confidence Index
While the 3rd quarter of 2010′s agribusiness confidence level is 53% higher than the 3rd quarter in 2009, which was the lowest level ever observed, the increase was expected because of the low level from where it was measured. This level was a 5% decrease from the 2nd quarter of 2010. Although there still will be a significant year-on-year increase this news will definitely put a damper on the excitement of the increase. Hopefully this does not mean that there will be another decrease in the 4th quarter although it does look likely that confidence may remain in the low, positive range. The South African agribusiness’s confidence is measured quarterly by the Agricultural Business Chamber (ABC) and the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) through their quarterly ABC/IDC Agribusiness Confidence Index.
