How To Tell Your Parent They Need a Digital Hearing Aid

Hearing loss can be caused by any number of environmental factors or biological factors. Even though hearing loss is not uncommon as we age, it is still difficult to watch our parents, as adults, losing out on communicating due to hearing problems.

Many people find it difficult to approach their parent about getting a ear hearing aid for fear of starting an argument. However there are a few ways to talk about hearing loss with a parent without stirring up embarrassment.

Start by bringing up a past situation where your parent seemed to not understand a conversation that was going on around them. Do not mention that they did not seem to hear what was being said but rather that they looked uncomfortable while the story was being told. This will give your parent the opportunity to either make up an excuse or confess they had trouble hearing.

Once they admit they have a hearing problem is the best time to mention getting a hearing aid, however if they do not admit to having a problem try mentioning a neighbor or family friend that has hearing aid.

Before you bring up hearing aids in a conversation with your parent make sure you are familiar with the differences between non-prescription and prescription hearing aids and how much they can cost.
