Why Would a Company Refuse to Write a Homeowner’s Insurance Policy?

Homeowner’s insurance is very important for anyone to have. However, did you know that there are some reasons a company will not write a policy. Here are just a few.

The first thing will keep most companies from writing a policy is if there is an unprotected swimming pool on the property. All swimming pools are required to have a fence and a locking gate. If it is an above ground pool then there must be some way to keep children and pets from getting into it.

Another thing that can keep a company from writing a homeowner’s insurance policy is having what is considered a dangerous dog on the premises. Dogs such as Rotweillers, Pit Bulls, Chows, and other large breed dogs are “black listed” by most insurance companies. If they do write a policy they will usually exclude any liability coverage pertaining to the dog.

If the home does not have handrails where there are steps, a company can refuse to write a policy for you. This is simply because this situation is considered hazardous, and the company does not want that responsibility.

A home that is in poor shape or has numerous problems can keep a company from writing a homeowner’s policy for you. When you call for a Georgia home insurance quote most of the time an agent must come and take pictures of the home. If there is any kind of fault that could be hazardous, an underwriter can refuse to issue a policy.
