How to Hire a Professional Commercial Collection Agency

There are a number of factors to consider before engaging the services of a commercial debt collection agency. In the world of debt collection, it is not necessarily best to look for the cheapest deal you can find. An agency with experience and reputable business practices may cost a bit more, but will collect more money for you in the long run and save you possible headaches as well. There are several factors to look at when making your choice.

You want to make sure that the agency is licensed to do business, at the very least in their state, if not in yours. You should also make sure that they are members of the American Collector’s Association and that they are bonded. Additionally, any established agency will have a website that will help you determine what type of experience they have. You should verify this by asking the agency for customer references and take the time to talk with several of them personally. Questions you might ask should be focused on their success rate with problem accounts, their overall professionalism and their knowledge of the collection industry.

Do not necessarily avoid smaller agencies in favor of larger ones. A smaller agency that has professionally established itself and has a proven track record might be able to collect more money for you and possibly cost you less in fees after all.
