Working in Guerilla Marketing
When I first became involved in marketing and advertising, I thought it would be exciting. Working for an advertising marketing firm seemed like the best way to put my talents to good use. You see, I am a highly creative person who loves anything having to do with language and communication. Although I am a good speaker, I am even better when I have time to prepare. Unfortunately, the advertising shtick seemed pretty boring to me after a while. I didn’t really realize how mundane and routine most of it was. That is, until I got into guerilla marketing.
If you have never been been involved in guerilla marketing before, you can still probably guess what it is about. Basically, guerrilla marketing is a market promotion strategy where you apply guerrila tactics to publicizing your product or event. It involves components of word of mouth marketing, but it is more than word-of-mouth. It is about staging events in the real world to get people to notice your product or your client.
Working in a guerilla advertising agency has given me some of the most amazing stories that I have ever had to tell. I used to feel left out when I would go out with friends and they would all tell stories from their lives. One of my best friends is a policemen, another one is a psychiatrist, and the third one goes mountain climbing on the weekends. You can bet that they have some good stories, but now I had some to share myself! With gorilla marketing, we do things like stage impromptu street parties, pose as members of various subcultures to promote products that would interest them, infiltrate….
