East Iowa celebrations increase profits for locals

In order to increase the money brought in by the east Iowa tourism industry many different events have been planned for the area. A celebration called crab grass days boasts to have everyone leaving laughing thinking that they have just had the best time of their lives. Another celebration promises to determine the cast iron skillet throwing king and queen of the Midwest. A third community is holding a dog days of summer event where everything is centered around the four legged pets. All of these events are a little outlandish, but their purpose is not so much to celebrate anything as it is to draw tourists to the area. Each event is at a place where there are motel rooms available and at least two restaurants in the area. All the events are scheduled for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with the contestants needing to be there for the full three days to compete. The prizes in the average contest will cost in the neighborhood of a thousand dollars and the tourism dollars expected to be spent in the area is roughly twenty five times that amount. If this works out I am sure it will be copied all over the Midwest.
