Income Tax Deductions

June 25th, 2007

Taxes can be a bit tricky at times. After completing school a couple years back, I wasn’t exactly prepared for the “real world” and income tax deductions. I knew I wanted to be a writer, but the title I wanted was not so simple to achieve. This turned me toward freelance work to pay the bills. Little did I know, self-employed individuals worked with a different tax system than company employed workers. What I mean by this is we have to grapple with quarterly taxes, instead of the yearly routine. Now, did I just throw off any self-employed workers out there? Hey, it’s better to know this ahead of time. This is when I decided to consult an accountant. He explained the quarterly tax spiel to me, in addition to income tax deductions. I was pleased to know that as a writer I could write off trips and vacations that I used for “inspiration for writing.” Makes sense right? Well, whether it does or not is irrelevant. Either way it’s valid income tax deductions. What about your career or current job position? Are you aware of all the income tax deductions available to you? If the answer is no, you’d better get with the program and get that cash.
